Pretty Cool Week

On Monday, the 7th of January, I was in Coronado, and wherever, the Navy's F/A-18's are taking off or landing at NAS North Island, you can hear them all over the island. On this particular day, I saw 3 jets flying in formation towards the base, and yet, they were fairly quiet. I suddenly realized that they were not 18's, but F-16's.

This is an uncommon site, so I raced down to the beach, and jsut as I got there, the last of the three was landing, and I missed my photo opportunity, but having nothing to do at that moment, I parked and waited. About 10 minutes laters, two more 16's circled over the runway,a dn started comimg in for the landing. I jumped out of the FJ Crusier, camera in hand and was able to shoot the two US Air Force F-16's from Arizona.

Then on Saturday the 12th, I went to an air field that I know of where the Marines use it ofr training purposes on weekends, and sure enough they were there with two F/A'-18's from the VMFA-323, the Death Rattlers, and two more 18's from VMFAT-101, the Sharpshooters, and their Medal of Honor plane.

I went back to the air field on Sunday the 13th, and shot some more pics and then had lunch with the Commanding Officers and several instructors from the Sharpshooters. It was a great time being able to speak with these Marine Aviators. I also have made arraignments to interview the C.O. in the near future.

Great Week!
